Life and Reading Update: 6-Week Milestone and “Gator Dad” by author and illustrator Brian Lies

Hello and Happy Sunday. Time for a quick update!

Smiles from Logan

Logan is quickly approaching 6 weeks of age and the time is flying by…although it doesn’t ALWAYS feel like that. We are taking one day at a time, like you do when you are a new parent (and new baby, for that matter), and while it’s not easy, it’s small steps on a long-term journey.

We are trying to nurse exclusively during the day and give supplement at night. Mommy is working hard to keep up with Logan’s appetite, but this boy likes to eat! He is growing fast and strong; he has a steel grip and holds on like a magnet. He is also going through a bit of a “waking up” (fussy) phase where all he really wants is the comfort of Mama. He will rest with Papa and Mimi for a little while but his main concern is getting back to Mama.

He weighed 10.4 lbs on October 3rd at his second pediatric appointment. He is attempting “tummy time” a few times a week, where he tries to hold up his head, but he is not crazy about it. We went on our first official walk yesterday (fall is FINALLY here) and we are sleeping slightly better than we were a few weeks ago. But he gets cantankerous easy and often.

Despite the difficult times, everything seems to be normal and on track. Logan is a loving boy and displays his “joker” personality every day by playing with Mama’s nipples. He is starting to smile more often and his dreams appear to be very interesting. When he raises his eyebrows in a look of concern, we get curious as to his thoughts. He coos and gurgles and only tolerates a diaper change after his stomach is full. He is a sweet boy with a fondness for breastfeeding and the closeness it provides. We love him very much…

As for our reading, we are making slow but steady progress with our current “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” challenge; we are determined to get there. Mama hopes to read a book a week pretty soon, but Mama is also on Logan’s schedule and doesn’t know what each day will bring.

So far, we have read 3 books for the challenge and are planning to read several more this month. Mama went to the library last week and picked up a few cute titles, two of which are Halloween-themed. We will read them and share them with you all in the near future.

Last week, we read “Gator Dad” by Brian Lies. It was our first book by this author and illustrator, and we liked it very much. Review to come…

COMING SOON: Little One Book Reviews of previous reads 📚

Up Next: We will read Halloween-themed children’s books. What spooky books are you reading with the little ones in your life?

That’s all we have time for right now, but we hope to check back in soon (probably during nursing or naptime). We’d love to hear about other great children’s books everyone else is reading, so please feel free to comment with recommendations. We are adding books to our TBR all the time!
